The Colorado Rapids on Monday traded for midfielder Atiba Harris from the Vancouver, the club said, sending to the Whitecaps an international roster spot.
Harris, 27, started in just eight games the past two seasons for Vancouver. He scored two goals and added three assists in 2011, but was point-less last season.
But Harris did help FC Dallas to the MLS Cup final in 2010, scoring four goals in that campaign, after starting in 28 of 29 games. The Hoops that season lost to the Rapids in the title game.
Harris said of the trade on Twitter:
“Heading to the Rocky Mountains!!!! I’m optimistic and excited… Bring on 2013 already.”
Rapids technical director Paul Bravo and president Tim Hinchey have said they were looking to create more depth on the team’s roster. Harris joins a crowded midfield at Colorado, led by budding star Martin Rivero and defensive stalwart Jeff Larentowicz. But Harris was a forward-pressing player at Dallas — where current Colorado coach Oscar Parjea was an assistant — and could be a utility player.
